A city in the Western Hemisphere. 50 years ago

The use of fossil fuels had reached stratospheric proportion by the early 21st century. Most of the energy resources were guzzled by personalised individual vehicles. Widely available reports in those years revealed that petroleum reserves, were getting exhausted yet meagre efforts were made at conservation.

Thousands of hectares were reserved for many wild species to live with minimal human interference

Although several species had become extinct by the 2000's due to human encroachment into natural ecoystems, the rate became accelerated from 2003 when evidence for the alarming loss was ignored for political expediency.
